We cut this two-piece set from a thin, airy woven cotton with zero stretch to keep the checkered pattern straight and crisp. The top sits clean at the neck and fastens with a hidden side zipper, while the shorts pull on with a gathered drawstring waist.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Top and side zipper
The sleeveless shell has a neat crew neckline and a straight hem that clears the hip. We set a concealed zipper into the side seam so you can step into the top without pulling at the woven cotton.
Drawstring shorts
The matching shorts sit on an elasticated waistband threaded with a flat fabric drawcord to adjust the rise. Two forward slash pockets sit deep enough for keys and a small phone without pulling on the hips.
Cotton weave and print
We used a lightweight cotton weave that lets air through during warm mornings. The black and white check is woven straight on the grain, keeping the lines square across both the top and the leg hems.
Wash and care
Machine wash cold with similar darks inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the fine side zipper and drawstring ends. Do not bleach. Line dry in the shade to keep the cotton weave crisp.
