We cut this warm weather set from a thin, non stretch cotton weave with a clean red and white check. The top has a crewneck and capped sleeves with a hidden side zipper for pulling on easily. Below, the matching shorts rest on a drawstring waistband with deep slash pockets.

What went into it

The details we cut in

Top and side zipper

The crewneck top is cut with short cap sleeves and a straight hem that sits over the waistband. A concealed zipper along the side seam opens the torso wide so the woven cotton pulls over the head without tugging.

Drawstring waistband

The matching shorts use an elasticated band threaded with an adjustable fabric cord. This keeps the waist secure without digging in, while the legs are cut wide through the thigh for easy movement around the house.

Slash pockets

Two angled slash pockets are sewn directly into the side seams of the shorts. They sit flat when empty and offer enough depth for keys or a phone without pulling down the lightweight cotton weave.

Fabric and laundry care

Woven from thin, breathable cotton yarn, this checkered cloth carries no stretch and dries fast. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag with like colours. Do not bleach. Hang the set on a line to dry.
