We knit this cardigan in a lightweight dark red yarn with an open crochet pattern. The V-neck sits flat against the collarbone, leading into a tidy button placket. It sits light over other layers without adding bulk around the shoulders or waist.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Crochet knit stitch
The open crochet structure gives the knit its breathable texture and natural stretch. It lets air move through the body of the sweater while keeping a light layer of warmth across the arms and torso.
Neckline and front placket
We finished the V-neck with a smooth ribbed band that runs straight down the front opening. The buttons are dyed to match the dark red yarn, sitting secure through reinforced buttonholes that will not stretch out of shape.
Straight hem and sleeves
The sleeves end in light ribbing at the wrists to keep the cuffs in place. Along the bottom, the straight hem hangs level across trousers or skirts without pulling tight around the hip.
Washing and yarn care
Place the knit in a mesh laundry bag before machine washing on a gentle cycle to protect the crochet stitches from catching. Do not use bleach. Lay flat on a towel to dry so the knit keeps its shape.
