We knit this lightweight layer in an open crochet stitch that lets air move through the body. The V-neck sits flat against the collarbone, fastened down the center with dyed-to-match buttons. Ribbed bands finish the long sleeves and straight hem to hold their shape over trousers or skirts.

The details we cut in
V-neck and placket
The neckline drops into a neat V that fastens with dyed-to-match buttons down the front placket. We reinforced the button bands so the knit will not pull or gap when closed.
Crochet openwork knit
An open crochet pattern runs through the body and sleeves, giving the yarn texture without adding heavy bulk. The knit carries light natural stretch to move comfortably through the shoulders.
Cuffs and hem
Fine ribbing trims the cuffs and lower hem to anchor the openwork stitch. The sleeves stay put at the wrist, and the straight hem rests cleanly over waistbands.
Laundering and care
Place the cardigan in a mesh laundry bag before machine washing on a gentle cycle. Do not bleach. Lay it flat on a drying rack to keep the openwork stitch from stretching out.
