We cut this sweatshirt with a generous body and dropped shoulder seams for an easy, loose hang. The cotton blend fabric has a brushed fleece back that holds warmth without feeling stiff. Across the chest, we stitched California lettering in direct embroidery.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Crew neckline and shoulders
The round neckline is set with a flat rib band that stays smooth against the collarbone. We dropped the shoulder seams past the natural shoulder line to give the long sleeves extra room across the upper arms.
Fleece interior
We chose a cotton and polyester knit with a soft, lofted fleece backing. It feels substantial in the hand, holds its shape through the torso, and layers easily over base shirts when the weather cools.
Ribbed cuffs and hem
Wide ribbed bands finish both the long sleeves and the bottom hem. The rib knit gathers the excess fabric gently at the wrists and hips so the oversized silhouette stays anchored without riding up.
Embroidery and care
The front graphic is embroidered directly into the knit rather than screen printed, so the lettering will not crack. Machine wash separately in cold water or hand wash, and avoid bleach to keep the black yarn deep.
