We cut this longer rain coat from a smooth, wind-resistant waterproof shell in army green and backed it with a soft red plaid lining. The hood adjusts with cords, and an internal waist drawstring lets you pull the middle closer. Front pockets sit deep enough for gear on wet trails.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Red plaid lining
The interior is fully faced with a printed red plaid fabric that stays soft against your arms. It adds a light layer of warmth and slides easily over knitwear without catching.
Hood and waist cords
We built the hood with matching drawstrings so it stays put in high wind. A second cord runs through the waist seam to gather the coat closer when the rain picks up.
Deep front pockets
Two wide patch pockets sit low on the front panels. They are set flat against the coat body and close securely to keep small items dry on a trail walk.
Care and maintenance
Wash by hand or use a gentle machine cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Hang the coat to dry. Do not iron the shell, as direct heat damages the waterproof coating.
