We cut this base layer close to the torso with narrow long sleeves that sit flat under heavy winter knitwear. The outer knit has a smooth face, while the interior is brushed for loft. A band of fine lace borders the scoop neckline.

The details we cut in
Scoop neckline with lace
We set the neckline wide enough to clear the collars of outer sweaters. The edge is bound with a narrow strip of soft lace that lies flat against the collarbone without rolling.
Brushed fleece interior
The knit fabric is smooth on the outside and lightly brushed inside for loft and warmth. It holds close along the ribs and arms so excess bulk does not catch inside coat sleeves.
Sleeve and hem cut
The long sleeves are tapered from shoulder to wrist to stay put beneath cuffs. We gave the bottom hem sufficient length to tuck into trousers or skirt waistbands without pulling free.
Laundering and care
Wash the navy knit in cold water on a gentle cycle. Skip the bleach and avoid soaking the top for long stretches to keep the fabric tone deep and preserve elasticity.
