We cut this two-piece set from a thin, non-stretch woven cotton in a clean lake blue and white grid. The top is a sleeveless shell with a rounded crew neckline and a concealed side zipper that lets it pull on easily. Below, the matching shorts sit on an elasticated waist with an adjustable drawstring and deep slash pockets.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Crewneck and side zip
The sleeveless top features a rounded neckline with clean self-binding. A hidden side zipper runs along the underarm seam so the woven cotton shell slides on easily without stretching out the collar.
Drawstring waistband
The shorts are built with a soft gathered waistband anchored by a matched drawstring cord. You can cinch the waist loose or close depending on how you prefer the rise to sit.
Checkered cotton weave
We chose a lightweight woven cotton yarn-dyed in lake blue and white squares. The fabric is light and holds a crisp drape without clinging or stretching across the seat.
Care and laundering
Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the seams and drawcord. Use like colors, skip the bleach, and hang dry out of direct sunlight to preserve the crisp blue check.
