We cut this cropped jacket from a brushed plaid flannel in pale gray and soft blue. The body sits wide and square through the waist, with a full button placket and a classic fold-down collar. Wear it buttoned as a heavy overshirt or open across a lighter base layer.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Plaid flannel weave
The brushed fabric has a soft nap and enough weight to hold the square cut. We selected a pale gray ground crossed with light blue checks that run true across the front placket.
Cropped boxy hem
We shortened the body so the bottom hem rests at the high waist. The straight lower line balances the relaxed drop across the shoulders and gives layers underneath room to show.
Front button placket
A row of sturdy buttons fastens the front from the pointed collar down to the hem. You can fasten it fully for extra warmth or leave the front open when moving between rooms.
Straight pockets and care
Two patch pockets sit flat across the chest for small essentials. Machine wash the jacket in cold water, tumble dry on low heat or hang dry, and press with a cool iron to clear packing creases.
