We cut this short black trench with a clean button front and a subtle waist shape. The woven shell has enough body to hold its line over a knit or blouse, while the hip-length hem keeps it light. Inside, we lined the body and collar in classic plaid.

The details we cut in
Shoulder and collar
The collar lays flat and shows a trace of the plaid lining underneath. We set the shoulders cleanly so the front placket falls straight without pulling across your chest.
Button front closure
A row of sturdy buttons fastens the front from the lower hem right up to the throat. Leave it undone over a tee, or button it up against cool morning air.
Side entry pockets
We placed deep welt pockets into the side seams at the hip. They sit flat when empty and give you a warm spot to rest your hands while walking.
Fabric and care
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then hang the jacket on a broad hanger to dry. A brief pass with a cool iron or garment steamer takes out packaging folds.
