We cut this top with an open square neckline and an elasticated smocked bodice that gives through the chest. The short puff sleeves hold their volume with gathered shoulders, while the waist releases into a loose peplum hem. The lightweight dark blue cloth is printed with small scatter florals across the grain.

The details we cut in

Square neckline

The clean horizontal cut sets wide across the collarbone and stays flat against the chest. We finish the inner edge with turned facing so the smocking does not pull at the neckline.

Puff sleeves

Gathering at the shoulder seam and cuff creates rounded volume through the short sleeve. The lower edge sits softly on the arm with a narrow casing that holds the shape.

Smocked bodice

Parallel lines of elastic thread gather the fabric across the torso for close, flexible give. Below the smocked section, the cloth flares out into an open peplum hem that clears the hips.

Care guide

Wash in cold water by hand or on a gentle machine cycle without bleach to preserve the blue print. Hang the top on a line to dry so the smocking retains its spring.
