We cut this cold-weather hood from plush, high-pile fleece in a black plaid pattern, combining a deep headpiece, face cover, and throat gaiter into one garment. The extended lower skirt tucks neatly beneath the collar of your coat to block drafts. Dual drawstrings let you cinch the face opening down to the nose or drop the panel under your chin.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Hood and face panel
We shaped the crown with enough depth to accommodate tied hair or a low cap. The front panel pulls high across the bridge of the nose or rests beneath the lower lip, controlled by side cords running through stitched channels.
Extended neck skirt
The lower edge drops broad and low over the collarbone and upper back. It stays tucked inside heavy outerwear without bunching up around the base of the neck, closing the open gap between your jacket collar and chin.
Lofted fleece fabric
We selected a dense sherpa fleece with a soft, brushed pile on both sides. The knit holds air in its loft while keeping the piece pliable, so you can fold the whole hood into a coat pocket when not in use.
Black plaid care
The plaid pattern is knit directly into the face of the fabric so the dark lines stay clear after repeated use. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then hang or lay flat to dry to preserve the loft.
