We cut this peasant top with an open square neckline and an elasticated smocked bodice that sits close through the chest. The empire seam releases into a loose lower body that falls past the waist. We chose a lightweight woven cloth printed with orange florals over a black ground.

The details we cut in
Square neckline
The wide square neck sits flat across the chest and leaves the collarbones open. Elastic along the shoulder edge keeps the gathered sleeve head resting securely in place.
Smocked empire body
Rows of fine elastic thread run through the bodice to create a stretchy, textured panel. The waist seam sits high beneath the bust, letting the lower hem hang freely.
Puffed long sleeve
We cut the sleeves with volume through the arm and gather the fullness at the shoulder and the wrist. The gathered cuffs hold the sleeve in place above the hand.
Fabric and care
The lightweight woven fabric has an airy hand and a soft drape. Machine wash cold or wash by hand with like colours, avoid bleach, and line dry to preserve the smocking.
