We cut this royal blue tunic with a wide square neckline and a closely smocked bodice. Long sleeves gather at the shoulder and taper softly down the arm. The lower body releases below the smocking into a loose peplum hem.

The details we cut in

Smocked bodice

The bodice uses parallel elastic stitching to hold the chest close before easing out. It gives the lightweight fabric plenty of give while keeping the square neckline flat against the collarbone.

Puff sleeve

We gathered the sleeve head at the shoulder seam to build volume through the upper arm. The long sleeve tapers neatly toward the wrist to keep the cuff out of the way.

Peplum hem

The fabric releases below the smocked chest into an ungathered flare. It hangs freely around the hips with a clean, double-turned hem that sits level all the way around.

Cold wash care

Machine wash or hand wash in cold water with similar blues. Skip the bleach to protect the deep royal dye, and hang or line dry to keep the elastic smocking tight.
