We set a square neckline across the chest and ran rows of elastic thread through the bodice for a gathered, flexible fit. The sleeves gather at the shoulder and taper down to the wrist. Below the smocked panel, the lightweight woven fabric falls open through the waist.

The details we cut in

Square neck and smocking

Rows of elastic stitching run across the front and back bodice to create a textured, stretchy section that sits close. The square neckline rests wide across the collarbone with clean, turned edges.

Gathered puff sleeve

We set extra fullness into the sleeve head to form a soft puff at the shoulder. The long sleeve tapers down the arm to an elasticated wrist that stays in place when pushed up.

Babydoll lower hem

Below the smocked section, the body releases into a loose flare. The hemline falls straight across the hip, cut with enough ease to drape naturally over trousers or skirts without pulling.

Fabric and laundering

We chose a lightweight woven cloth in green that breathes well and holds its gather. Machine wash or hand wash in cold water without bleach, then hang the blouse on a line to dry.
