We knit this long cardigan in a soft textured yarn that carries some stretch. The open front falls straight past the hips, framed by bold contrast blocking. Ribbed cuffs finished with small gold-tone metal buttons keep the long sleeves neat at the wrist.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Open front and hem
The front bands hang straight down without fasteners. We cut the hem long to sit well past the waist, giving the knit a steady, vertical drape over trousers or a slip dress.
Cuffs and gold buttons
Each sleeve ends in a dense ribbed cuff. We set decorative gold-tone metal buttons along the wrist seam to anchor the sleeve line and hold the cuff flat against the arm.
Front patch pockets
Two open patch pockets sit on the lower panels. We knit them flat against the body of the sweater so they hold small everyday objects without pulling the side seams.
Knit care
Wash on a cold cycle with similar light and dark tones. Skip the bleach. Lay the cardigan flat on a towel to dry so the knit pattern keeps its shape.
