We cut this sleeveless vest from a soft, high-loft fleece in classic red and black plaid. The stand collar zips right up to the chin, while the body falls straight through the waist to sit over sweaters and long-sleeve shirts. Two deep pockets rest at the front hip.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Stand collar and zipper
The collar stands upright when fully zipped to cover the neck or folds flat when worn open. We set the front zipper into reinforced tape so the teeth run clear of the surrounding fleece pile.
Fleece fabric and print
We chose a double-sided fleece with a raised texture that traps air without adding heavy weight. The red and black check pattern is woven through the yarn so the plaid stays crisp after repeated washes.
Sleeveless armhole cut
The armholes are cut wide enough to fit over thick knit sweaters, flannel shirts, and thermal base layers without bunching under the arms. Soft self-fabric binding finishes each edge so the seams stay flat.
Front side pockets
Two open entry pockets sit on the front panels for keys and hands. We stitch the pocket bags directly to the interior facing to keep the front hem from drooping when the pockets are filled.
