We cut this unlined rain shell from a lightweight coated polyester in cool gray. The front zip sits behind water-resistant taping, and the hood pulls close with adjustable drawstrings. An elastic waistband keeps the middle gathered close against damp wind. It folds down into a matching storage pouch when the drizzle clears.

What went into it
The details we cut in
Hood and front zip
The hood features two drawstrings that pull the brim close around your brow. Down the front, we set a coated zipper with water-resistant taping to help keep light drizzle from creeping through the teeth.
Elastic waist and pockets
We stitched an elastic band across the waist to gather the unlined shell close to the body. Two deep front pockets sit below the waistline to give you room for small items while walking.
Unlined gray fabric
This lightweight gray polyester shell is unlined to keep bulk down on the trail. The tight weave acts as a windbreak in gusty weather and dries quickly after a passing shower.
Care and pack pouch
Wipe the gray shell down with a damp cloth or rinse it with cool water rather than running it through a washing machine. Pack the dry jacket into its matching drawstring pouch between uses.
